Replacing Metals with Plastics
Components machined from stock shape plastics products offer distinct advantages over metal parts in terms of lower overall cost, low maintenance, reduced noise and vibration, simplified design, lower weight, better chemical resistance and high energy efficiency. With a wide variety of standard off-the-shelf engineering and high-performance plastic products, Quantum offers a wide selection of materials in order to perfectly match your application requirements with the most cost effective material available.
For those applications that require physical, mechanical and electrical properties beyond the reach of standard off-the-shelf resins, Quantum offers rod, plate and tubular bars from custom formulated reinforced compounds to provide tailored solutions to meet your precise requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Where are Quantum Polymers’ products made?
All of our stock shapes – rods, plates and tubular bars – are manufactured in the United States in our 23,000 square foot facility in Newark, Delaware.
Does Quantum Polymers also make CNC machined parts?
No, our focus is on our core competency which is to provide the best quality extruded shapes. Unlike many of our competitors, we do not believe in competing with our machine shop customers. We believe in supporting a healthy manufacturing eco system in the U.S.
I’ve tried your competitors’ products and I prefer Quantum Polymers stock shapes as they have better quality and machine flawlessly. What is the reason for this?
It is important to know that every stock shape manufactured by Quantum Polymers is extruded from 100% prime virgin resins only. Secondly, our manufacturing equipment is optimized for the intricacies of extruding high temperature polymers. This allows for porosity-free stock shapes, which are especially critical for large diameter rod and thick cross section plates. A porosity-free shape is essential to flawless machining. Lastly, we anneal 100% of our stock shapes with our proprietary annealing process that results in machined parts with no residual stress.
Please explain the importance of extruding stock shapes with 100% prime virgin resins.
Most engineering and high performance semi-finished parts – rods, tubular bars and plates – are typically machined and ultimately used in mission critical applications in Aerospace, Defense, Healthcare and O&G markets. We take this responsibility very seriously and provide the highest possible quality materials with authentic 100% prime virgin raw materials. We purchase our raw materials directly from our resin suppliers. We do not use recycled resins from brokers and we don’t take any shortcuts in procuring our raw materials.
Yes, but other companies blend in-house scrap in their products and are allowed call it prime material. Does Quantum Polymers do the same?
No, we do not. We sell all of our scrap; we do not use it in our products.
How can you be sure that Quantum material is 100% prime virgin material?
We purchase our raw materials directly from competent resin manufacturers or their authorized distributors. Certificates of compliance or certificates of analysis accompany all incoming resins and compounds from these suppliers. These certs contain information integral to our processing, but also contain resin lot and batch numbers, both of which are essential to how we manage full traceability of our stock shapes.
Are there other American manufacturers like Quantum Polymers?
We are unique. We are a technically innovative U.S. business, consistently leading the industry with new products for demanding applications in new and emerging markets.
Is Quantum Polymers ISO Certified?
Yes, we are an ISO 9001:2008 Registered Company and will make the transition to ISO 9001:2015 by end of 2018 as required.
